As a flexible link between generation and consumption, large-scale storage systems are playing an increasingly important role in the safe and efficient use of renewable energy. They absorb surplus electricity from wind and solar power plants and release it back into the grid as required, thereby increasing the proportion of renewable energy in the electricity mix. <\/p>\n
The planned plant in the industrial estate in Alfeld will have a connected load of 10.75 MW and a storage capacity of 22 MWh. This will provide enough energy to supply households in the town of Alfeld (Leine) with electricity for around five hours. The battery storage facility will be erected shortly to the east of the Leine on an area of just 2000 m\u00b2 and will be put into operation next year. <\/p>\n
“In contrast to other energy systems, battery storage systems can have a major impact on a very small area and thus strengthen the power grid without taking up a lot of space,” says Fabian Fink, Operations Manager at FBS-Systems. This is because the performance class of the system is roughly equivalent to a ten-hectare ground-mounted solar system or three medium-sized wind turbines. <\/p>\n
