Battery storage: A strong signal for the energy transition in the Aachen city region

FBS-Systems acquires RtB project rights for battery storage in Alsdorf

With a new large-scale battery storage project in Alsdorf, FBS-Systems is sending a clear signal for the energy transition in North Rhine-Westphalia. The storage facility with a connected load of 9.2 megawatts and a storage capacity of 17.6 megawatt hours strengthens the local electricity grid and is a significant step towards better integration of renewable energies and stabilization of the grid infrastructure in the region.

A key objective of the energy transition and the switch to a renewable electricity supply is the decoupling of electricity generation and consumption over time. This is where battery storage systems make a decisive contribution: they absorb surplus electricity from wind and solar power systems and feed it back into the grid when it is needed – exactly when it is needed.

The construction of the plant at the Alsdorf site is to be realized on an area of around 1,000 m² and will begin shortly. Once operational, the storage facility will be able to supply almost 20,000 households with electricity for up to two hours, thus contributing to grid stability in the region.

Close and constructive cooperation with local partners

A key factor was the smooth cooperation of all those involved, which made the project possible. It impressively demonstrates how even complex planning challenges can be successfully overcome through close cooperation between the city, landowners, grid operators and project developers. “The positive attitude of the city of Alsdorf deserves special mention. With its pioneering role for a flexible energy supply and the expansion of renewable energies, it has significantly supported and shaped the project from the very beginning,” emphasizes Tim Gruhler, Head Project Developer at FBS-Systems

Another milestone for FBS-Systems

With the project in Alsdorf, FBS-Systems is once again underlining its strong position as one of the leading project developers in the German battery storage market. In recent years, the company has established itself as one of the most innovative providers in the field of battery storage projects. “Our aim is to create solutions wherever they are needed – for a stable, clean and affordable energy future,” says Fabian Fink, COO FBS-Systems.
