FBS-Systems develops further battery storage system in North Rhine-Westphalia as a building block of modern energy infrastructure
FBS-Systems GmbH is developing another battery storage system to construction maturity at its site in Wegberg. With this project, the company is making a targeted contribution to the development of a sustainable energy infrastructure and is responding to the growing demands for stability, reliability and flexibility in the electricity grid.
The planned battery storage system with a connected load of 15.8 MW and a storage capacity of 32 MWh will absorb surplus energy and feed it back into the grid as required. In this way, the system supports the secure operation of the electricity grids and adds a necessary infrastructural component to the ongoing expansion of wind and solar energy in the region.
“The energy transition will not be decided by generation alone, but by the interaction between renewables and flexibility,” says Robert Schulz, Managing Director of FBS-Systems. “Large-scale battery storage systems are a central component of modern energy infrastructure.”
FBS-Systems pursues a collaborative development approach and attaches particular importance to robust locations, close coordination with local authorities and sustainable integration into existing structures. The project in Wegberg was designed from the outset with a view to technical reliability and a high system-beneficial effect.
“The great willingness of the town of Wegberg to implement the project and the constructive support of the network operator NEW Netz have contributed significantly to the successful completion of the project. We would like to express our sincere thanks to everyone involved,” emphasizes Tim Gruhler, project developer.
With the increasing share of renewable energies, battery storage systems are becoming more and more important. They react quickly to grid requirements, compensate for fluctuations and help to ensure security of supply even in times of high feed-in or low generation. FBS-Systems therefore sees storage systems not as a short-term solution, but as an integral part of tomorrow’s critical energy infrastructure.
