Strong impetus for the energy transition in Bavarian Swabia

FBS-Systems implements large-scale battery storage project in Balzhausen

With the construction of a state-of-the-art large-scale battery storage facility in Balzhausen, FBS-Systems is sending a strong signal for a secure and sustainable energy future in the district of Günzburg. The plant will have an output of 17.7 megawatts and a storage capacity of 38.5 megawatt hours. Commissioning is planned for 2026.

The aim of the project is to efficiently store fluctuating energy from wind and solar power plants and feed it back into the grid at the right time – a key component for security of supply and grid stability in the region.

The “feed-in socket” – new standards for grid control

The storage project is of particular importance due to its integration into the LVN pilot project “Feed-in socket”. This forward-looking concept of the distribution grid operator LVN aims to integrate storage systems even more specifically into grid control.

The large-scale storage facility in Balzhausen will thus become an active component of an intelligent grid infrastructure that can adapt flexibly to changing generation and consumption situations. The project thus makes an important contribution to the further development of the energy supply in terms of a renewable energy future.

Smooth cooperation as a success factor

A key success factor for the entire project was the close, cooperative coordination with all authorities and stakeholders involved right from the start. The good cooperation with the owner of the area, the Günzburg district office, the grid operator LVN and the municipality of Balzhausen played a key role in ensuring that the planning and approval processes could be driven forward quickly and constructively.

“A project like this can only be realized if everyone involved pulls together. The support from the local authorities and the clear communication made it possible to master complex requirements together,” emphasizes FBS-Systems Managing Director Robert Schulz.

The choice of location was also based on acceptance. The storage facility will be built directly adjacent to the extension of the transformer station and will therefore blend seamlessly into the landscape.

“The battery storage facility in Balzhausen planned as part of the LVN feed-in socket is a milestone that shows how grid operators, storage developers and local authorities can break new ground together. This will create the infrastructure that we really need for the energy transition,” says Tim Gruhler, project developer at FBS-Systems.

FBS-Systems – Driver of the energy transition in Germany

With the project in Balzhausen, FBS-Systems is once again underlining its leading role in the field of innovative energy storage solutions. In recent years, the company has established itself as a key player in the expansion of the German storage infrastructure and is continuously setting new standards in the technical implementation, system integration and regional embedding of its projects.
